WEDNESDAY, NOV. 2
The gym is my shrink each morning. After I’ve gotten my girls ready for school thank God they wear a uniform, so there is no morning quandary as to what they should wear I put on my gym uniform: One Step Up boot cut exercise leggings and a T shirt usually from a charity benefit gift bag. Today’s tee was from Trudie Styler and Sting’s annual Rainforest Foundation benefit.
I met Adrienne Vittadini for lunch at Swifty’s. The weather was gorgeous, and I went with Herms: a black suede fitted jacket with long fringe and nutmeg colored calf leather pants. Paired that with Manolo Blahnik ostrich booties and my black Birkin.
Then a trip downtown for a meeting to plan next year’s Rita Hayworth Gala. Back uptown, picked up my daughters at school and changed into my “play clothes” to hang with them: a long sleeved white Gap tee, khaki Gap pants and a cozy mustard Tse V neck sweater.
THURSDAY, NOV. 3
Another morning of school drop off in my gym uniform. This tee was one from the New York Jets commemorative 9/11 opening night game. Later, I had annual appeal solicitations when board members sit down and write fund raising letters to do for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I wore a camel cashmere Chanel jacket, gray flannel Michael Kors trousers, blush Saks Fifth Avenue Private Label turtleneck and a blush and gray paisley Loro Piana scarf with black suede Chanel loafers. And I carried my burgundy Birkin.

After dinner with my family, it was off to the Marine Corps Ball for cocktails and then to Broadway to catch “Spider Man” with a couple of girlfriends. This was tricky wardrobe territory as the ball was black tie and the theater obviously not. So I went with a Yves Saint Laurent black velvet tuxedo suit, white satin Naeem Khan blouse and Badgley Mischka’s rhinestone and black velvet belt with black suede YSL pumps. En route to the theater, I took off the jacket and the belt in the car and threw on a cashmere Pucci print V neck.
FRIDAY, NOV. 4
An early lunch meeting to discuss a branding project. My closet is color coded so everything is easy to find. I put on a crisp white Carolina Herrera blouse, and over that, a cream leather Valentino jacket. The off white wide leg trousers were also Valentino, and they went with Giuseppe Zanotti camel colored ostrich high heels and my saddle leather Birkin. I have everything in my Birkins. They hold my world together.
SATURDAY, NOV. 5
On weekends, my husband and I make it a point to not do anything social. It’s family time. In the morning, Ashleigh had swim team time trials. I layered, as it tends to heat up in the pool viewing area. I put on a taupe snakeskin print blouse and a taupe Mongolian lamb vest. Both are from Zara. On the bottom, I wore off white J. Crew bootleg cords and taupe snakeskin cowboy boots. I threw everything I needed into my new GiGi tote in Cayman python. It’s so soft and roomy.

We all headed out to Long Island afterward. My husband and I had planned a dinner and movie date. I went all loden green in a silk Banana Republic turtleneck with matching Veronica Beard fitted wool blazer and Ralph Lauren suede pants. It’s my style to dress in a monochromatic palette. For the most part, I don’t like a lot of jingle jangle going on. I think I got that from my mother.
SUNDAY, NOV. 6
Loved the extra hour of sleep. To go to church, I went casual and a little Western. I put on a Ralph Lauren saddle color suede wrap skirt, white blouse, Levi’s denim jacket and silver conch belt from a little local store in Aspen. I finished with crocodile brown boots.
MONDAY, NOV. 7
School for the girls, gym and then played catch up, shooting off e mails and taking down leftover Halloween decorations. I wanted to be comfortable yet ready to go for the twins’ school book fair. I chose a long sleeved white crewneck tee from the Gap, camel colored V neck cardigan and khaki DKNY slacks. I draped on a print Herms silk scarf and added a saddle colored Herms “H” belt. And I wore my beige pony skin pumps from BCBG. I love them. I don’t even know how old they are anymore.
TUESDAY, NOV. 8
Dressed for a lunch at Le Cirque on behalf of the New York Women’s Foundation. Diana Taylor was speaking, so I knew it would be interesting. She’s brilliant. The weather was surprisingly balmy so I put on a creamy white Dolce Gabbana sleeveless turtleneck dress and draped a cream Christian Dior silk and lace sweater over my shoulders. I added cream Manolo Blahnik heels and a cream snakeskin Lambertson Truex bag. Since I became a mother, I try to walk between two worlds. For a while, I tried to give up the “Muffie” life and was only in casual clothes all day. But since the girls entered first grade, I’ve inched back into my social life.
At night, I was a co chair for the opening night gala of the American Ballet Theater. I went from school pickup/play mode with my girls to getting ready in about 30 minutes. I can’t muck around. I wore the most divine Badgley Mischka Couture silver sequin mermaid style dress with double tulle overlays. I carried a light and dark silver Judith Leiber minaudire with this Art Deco design. My daughters each said I looked like a stunning princess. That’s about as good as it gets for me.
